Today we are going to look into common body language signs, the type of signs you observe every day at work or at home. Knowing these signs will help you understand others better. Before we begin, please keep in mind that body language gestures and movements should be only interpreted in context of other movements. Almost everything is relative in body language. Let’s take a movement of an arm, for example. It will be only significant when the distance between starting and ending points is significant. Otherwise it’s just movement.
In addition, some signs can send important messages in one context and be completely meaningless in another. Scratching the nose when listening to someone talking can mean disagreement; but if it’s person who is talking is scratching the nose it could be also indication of a lie. At the same time scratching the nose can be a simple indication of an itchy nose.
Finally, don’t become body language obsessed. Not every move has to have a meaning. Reading and interpreting body language is an art and not an exact science, no matter how we try to systematize it.
