Sanguine and Choleric Compatibility

We’ve already discussed how Sanguine and Choleric people behave in relationships in general here and here. Now let’s look at how they react to each other if they end up together.

As a general rule, Sanguine and Choleric personalities may not immediately find each other attractive. However, if they do fall in love, the relationship can become very strong and deeply bonding.

Their conversations can be interesting because both are intellectual in their own way. The Sanguine person usually has broader interests, while the Choleric person tends to master fewer topics but understand them in greater depth.

Both partners may admire each other. The Sanguine may admire the analytical and rational mind of the Choleric, while the Choleric may admire the curiosity and wide range of knowledge of the Sanguine.

Both of these personalities require a high degree of autonomy and independence. They are both self-sufficient, and on top of that, both usually have plenty going on outside the relationship. This may be why neither of them is likely to be too demanding, controlling, or unreasonably jealous.

Their different ways of interacting with the outside world may not create major problems, simply because each can admire the other’s strengths.

For example, the Choleric is often straightforward and can even be insensitive at times. All they care about is getting to the point in the shortest way possible. Sanguine people, on the other hand, are highly adaptable. Like chameleons, they adjust themselves to different situations and social expectations. Still, the Sanguine may admire the Choleric’s candor, while the Choleric may enjoy the ease with which the Sanguine communicates with other people.

On top of this, a Sanguine personality is usually hedonistic and extravagant, while the Choleric is more self-controlled and disciplined. Nevertheless, the Choleric partner may love the Sanguine’s spontaneity, while the Sanguine may enjoy loosening up the emotionally contained Choleric.

They may still face some problems because the Sanguine is optimistic, while the Choleric tends to be skeptical. Sometimes the Sanguine may see the Choleric as cold and cynical, while the Choleric may think the Sanguine is taking unnecessary risks because of their impulsiveness.

Although both are competitive, they approach competition very differently. Cholerics tend to be ambitious, highly focused on the goal, and openly assertive. Sanguines are usually more relaxed and want to enjoy their many interests. As a result, Choleric partners may see Sanguines as lazy or view some of their playful activities as silly, while Sanguines may decide that Cholerics are simply boring.

Still, despite all these differences, the two personalities can have a high level of compatibility and may make a strong match in romantic relationships.
